Saturday, August 4, 2018: Celebrating The Mother of God

“When the appointed time came, God sent his son, born of a woman, born subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law and to enable us to be adopted as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)

(Taken from the day’s Reading: Saturday, Psalter Week 1; Memoria of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday)

Every Saturday, the Church celebrates the Memoria of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. As the Bible passage above reads: “when the appointed time came, God sent his son, born of a woman….”

Like we read yesterday, God’s power is Omnipotent; which means He can do anything; after all, he created the World out of the Words of His mouth. Therefore, God has so many ways to save us but He chose to send His own Son as our Saviour. In the same way, He has so many ways to send His Son to save us but he chose that he be born through a woman and of all women he chose a certain “virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the Virgin’s name was Mary”. (Luke 1:27) This is the Woman we celebrate every Saturday: the Eternal Queen; the Queen of Heaven and Earth; the Queen of all Hearts (that seek God); the Queen of My Heart (for I seek God).

The reason we must celebrate this Woman is because she is so important in our salvation due to the role she played as reflected in the reading of today; “God sent his son, born of a woman, born subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law” and most importantly, “to enable us to be adopted as sons”. By her submission, we were adopted as Children of God, the Most High. For this, she is so important and indispensable to our Christian Life.

We benefited so much by her humble acceptance of her Divine call, for the Bible told us that after the message was delivered to her by Angel Gabriel, she said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your Word”. (Luke 1:38) She was highly favoured; full of grace, Immaculate.

For God to save those subject to Law, He had to let his son be born subject to Law. Therefore, to save man, God assumed the nature of man and that nature was fulfilled through this woman, that is why all generations will call her Blessed (cf. Luke 1:48).

May we call on her today and every day of our lives to assist us in this journey, because she is a perfect example of service to humanity; a service which she accepted in utmost humility. It is through such service that we actualize our purpose on earth and she is ever ready to assist us. Remember, for them that believe, everything worketh unto good. (Romans 8:28)

One thing that is sure to us is that her work, her role in our salvation has never ended. Just like Jesus said: “my Father goes on working; and so do I” (John 5:17), so does Mary’s work for our salvation go on too.

Hail Mary! Full of Grace; The Lord is You!!!

Remain Blessed!
