Monday, August 13, 2018: Blessed are the Merciful!

“Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom, because there will be judgement without mercy for those who have not been merciful themselves; but the merciful need have no fear of judgment”. (James 2:12-13)

We give glory to God for a brand new week in good health and the strength of mind and body. As we meditate on his word for today, may His Name be praised both now and forevermore. Amen!

Today, we are reminded that we are going to be judged by the law of freedom and if we show mercy, we shall receive mercy but if we show wickedness, wickedness would be our portion. This is because we are not in compulsion to do anything. God infinitely has liberated us through Christ and given us the freedom to choose between good and evil. So whatever we do is by our own choice.

There are people who claim that they cannot help being wicked because it is in the nature of man to be wicked. This claim is not true by any means at all. It is in the nature of man to love; for God, who is love, created man in His own image and likeness. This is evident in the life of Adam. When Adam woke up from slumber and saw Eve, he accepted her with love, knowing that she is the bone of his bone and the flesh of his flesh. He then gave her the name, Eve.

It was the devil who did sow the seed of wickedness on earth, but through Christ Jesus (the second Adam), we have been delivered from wickedness and given victory over sin and death. We are now left with the choice to choose mercy or wickedness but the fact is: whichever we choose comes back to us in manifold because they multiply on earth.

May we pray for the grace to sow love and mercy by showing love to our neighbours all through our lives for like the Lord Jesus says in the Beatitudes; “Blessed are the merciful; they shall have mercy shown them”. (Matthew 5:7)

May we sow the seed of love today and be ready to reap bountifully in love.
