“I exult for joy in the Lord, My Soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in the garment of Salvation, he has wrapped me in the cloak of integrity, like a bride adorned in her jewels”. (Isaiah 61:10)
(Taken from the day’s Reading: Morning Prayer for August 15: The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; The Breviary (Ab.V. pp 856)
Today is a special day in my life as well as in the lives of my fellow Christians in the Catholic faith. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother, the Virgin Mary, who we believe was taken to heaven, body and soul.
Earlier in the days, we use to argue with our separated brethren who do not believe in the Catholic doctrine on the Blessed Virgin Mary. These brethren condemn us with claims that we worship Mary and say that the feast we celebrate today is not written in the Bible. They criticise a lot of our teachings and condemn a lot of our beliefs in the Blessed Virgin Mary. It used to be a heated argument in those days.
However, in the present times, with the enlightenment that comes from the Holy Spirt; the like St. Paul referred to in his letter to the Church in Rome, (cf. Romans 12:2) I do not engage myself in such arguments again because it is a matter of belief; a subject of faith and not of argument. Since then, my reaction has always been that, “for those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation is sufficient”.
But what I promise people is that if at any time, anyone challenges me on any aspect of my belief in the Blessed Virgin Mary, I will simply tell “Her Majesty”, My Eternal Queen, to manifest herself to the person in a mysterious way and believe me, she will; because I enjoy special favour and priviledge in her. That is why today, like the Prophet Isaiah says, “I exult for joy in the Lord, My Soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in the garment of Salvation, he has wrapped me in the cloak of integrity, like a bride adorned in her jewels”.
This special priviledge I enjoy comes from the infinite mercies of God, the Most High, which manifested in Jesus Christ, my Saviour through Mary my Mother and Queen. She says, “My soul glorifies the Lord, my Spirit rejoices in God my Saviour. He looks on his servant in her lowliness, henceforth all ages will call me blessed” (Read Luke 1:46-55).
Today, I sing with her and because I believe, “all ages shall call me blessed”, because “The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy his name!” This is my message for today and I am sharing it with you. May we call her Mother, since we are Christ’s brothers and sisters. May we honour her as our Mother and our Queen.
Mary, Queen of all hearts . . . we rejoice in you! Intercede for us!
